A strong need for extensive, accurate, and easily exchangeable product information
Within various companies of the holding, a strong need has arisen for extensive, accurate, and easily exchangeable product information. In the past, the demand for product information mainly came from online sales, but now this demand is coming from various parts of the organization. A modern supplier cannot do without accurate product information.
In addition to some companies within the holding having overlapping assortments, the companies mainly have the same information needs. TABS Holland has therefore decided to implement one system for collecting, publishing, and maintaining product information for all its subsidiaries. SAP PCM has been chosen for this purpose. The seamless integration with e-Commerce and SAP ECC has been important in this choice.
By distinguishing between generic and commercial product information, product characteristics are processed only once and then made available to all companies. The companies themselves have the ability to add their own commercial texts, images, videos, and other media.
There is a lot of exchange of product information, such as supply by suppliers, enrichment from external sources, integration with internal and external systems, and delivery to customers for resale. To make this exchange of information run as smoothly as possible, multiple standards are used. Including:
- GS1 provides a central source for exchanging item data in the food and drugstore sector, the DIY and garden sector, and healthcare.
- ETIM, a standard for classifying product data in the construction and installation sector
- Building Information Model (BIM), is a 3D model that contains all the information needed for construction.
